C’est officiel ! MTV vient de dévoiler la liste très attendue des nominations pour les MTV Video Music Awards 2024 …et de changer de dates par la même occasion.
Cette année, c’est Taylor Swift qui rafle la mise avec un nombre record de 10 nominations, consolidant ainsi sa position de reine incontestée de la pop. La chanteuse américaine pourrait bien réaliser un exploit sans précédent en remportant pour la troisième année consécutive le prix tant convoité du “Clip de l’année”, établissant ainsi un nouveau record dans l’histoire des VMA.
Dans son sillage, on retrouve Post Malone, son complice sur le titre “Fortnight”, avec 9 nominations. Ariana Grande, Eminem et Sabrina Carpenter suivent de près avec 6 nominations chacune. Megan Thee Stallion et SZA ne sont pas en reste avec 5 nominations, tandis que LISA, Olivia Rodrigo et Teddy Swims en comptent 4.
Cette édition 2024 marque également les débuts de nombreux talents prometteurs dans la course aux VMA. Sabrina Carpenter et Teddy Swims, révélations de ces derniers mois, figurent parmi les 29 nouveaux nommés. Benson Boone, Tyla, Chappell Roan, Jelly Roll, Jessie Murph, Rauw Alejandro, Sexyy Red et Victoria Monét font également leur entrée dans la compétition avec plusieurs nominations chacun. Enfin, on retrouve également le groupe Stray Kids ou encore Jeon Jungkook en qualité de soliste.
Notons que les VMA ont été reportés d’une journée, passant du mardi 10 septembre au mercredi 11 septembre. Cette décision a été prise par MTV afin d’éviter toute concurrence avec le débat présidentiel américain très attendu entre la vice-présidente Kamala Harris et l’ancien président Donald Trump.
Dans un communiqué de presse, MTV encourage ses téléspectateurs à suivre le débat du 10 septembre avant de se joindre à la célébration musicale la plus emblématique de l’année. La cérémonie sera désormais diffusée en direct le mercredi soir à 20h, heure de NYC et du Pacifique, depuis l’UBS Arena, comme prévu.
Ce choix s’inscrit dans une démarche plus large de MTV en faveur de l’engagement civique. Comme le souligne Billboard.com, depuis l’élection de 1992 où Bill Clinton avait battu George H.W. Bush, MTV s’efforce d’intégrer la participation électorale et l’engagement citoyen à son identité de marque.
Quoi qu’il en soit, vous pouvez exprimer dès maintenant votre préférence sur vote.mtv.com et ainsi contribuer à sacrer les artistes qui méritent d’être entendus selon vous. Les votes sont ouverts jusqu’au 30 août pour la plupart des catégories, à l’exception de “Meilleur Nouvel Artiste” dont les votes resteront ouverts jusqu’à la cérémonie.
